Need instructions to take a window out and put in a air condtioner bigger than the originial window.?
We are re-modeling a shed into a Pool House. We have a window air conditioner that we want to install in the shed/Pool House. We will remove an existing window and install the air conditioner where the window located. This window is very small and we will have to make the opening bigger. Is there any instructions on how to do this project?
It would be cheaper/quicker/ and easier to buy a new A/C that fits the window
edit: If the window is small enough and absolutely has to be removed then i would consult a carpenter who is skilled in this area. you would need make a temporary support for the ceiling joists, cut out the window opening, inluding siding/brick,etc...install a new header, frame the new opening, install/insulate the new window, and then refinish the drywall and exterior siding. If you dont wish to install a new window and only have an a/c in the wall then make your opening to fit the a/c with 1/4" extra on all sides so that it can be removed if maint. is required. once you finish you would need to improvise a trim around the a/c that can be removed when necessary i.e. 1x4's, "base/case" trim or just caulk...you would have to break the seal later and then recaulk when re-installed.
